Peran dan fungsi dosen wali studi di IAIN Sunan Ampel

This research tries to find out the role and function of academic advisors at the Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya. It is based on the prevailing assumption among students that advising process has not run as expected. Academic advisors are appointed only to sign the study programming cards. Using qualitative paradigm, the researcher comes to a conclusion that advising process at IAIN Sunan Ampel has been relatively far from ideal. This ineffectiveness is caused not only by inoptimal effort of the academic advisors in carrying out their role and function, but also by inconducive system for the advising program. Improvement, however, should always be made so that the role and function of the academic advisors can run as prescribed in the academic guidelines of IAIN Sunan Ampel.
