Abstract
Gender is a concept to distinguish men from women in socio-cultural points of view. Gender, in this case, defines men and women from non-biological aspect. Many qur'anic verses state that men and women have equally important roles in all aspects of human life, and they are collaborative partners. No one is more superior nor more inferior than the other because each has his/her own duty and function based on their natural states. That men are stated to give shelter, be responsible, or the backbone of a family is consistent with the social structure which requires men to have more roles in public affairs and, naturally, women in domestic domain. However, it does not negate the possibly opposite roles as far as they are not against the nature. Al-Qur'itn and Hadith never discriminate those human genders, because Allah always creates everything in pairs and one complementary for the other. Therefore, when each complies with their own duty and function proportionally, harmonious life will come true. This is what Islam teaches.
