Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension has increased in the last five years. One of the factors causing hypertension is high cholesterol levels. Arterial blood vessels that accumulate cholesterol will narrow and become stiff, causing blood pressure to rise. The samples in this study were the teaching staff and the teaching staff of the Faculty of Psychology and Health of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, totalling 26 people. Cholesterol levels were measured using an easy touch digital device, and blood pressure were measured using a digital blood pressure monitor. The analysis test used is the Spearman correlation. The results showed that the majority of respondents had hypercholesterolemia (53,8%) and normal blood pressure (84,6%). The sig (2-tailed) value of the spearman test shows the value of p = 0,04 so that there is a relationship between cholesterol levels and hypertension in the employees of the Faculty of Psychology and Health of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.
