Abstract
Arent Jan Wensinck is an ex-member of language institution in Egypt. He began for a philological apporach, by presenting credo of historical terminology in Christianity as an instrument to study moslim faith. He said that faith in Islam has verious forms, which maybe consistant only words or the whole description. The former type was the confession of Moslem Faithuflness (Iman Muslim) as the phrase or sentence, is found in Tradition (Hadith). This has been factually as a mirror of history of Muslim’s ideas since the first century of Hijrah. Tradition also contains the second type of seed called the collection of faithfulness articles. While the highes agenda of Wensick is his sceptism toward Islam; (1) is Islam a religion of Muhammad or Ibrahim? And (2) is the faith of Islam perfect or not?. This agenda is given by critical study toward Al Qur’an, Prophet Tradition, and Moslem Tradition. The result of Wensick investigation gives the challenge to Moslem himself to introspect critically toward the otenticity including the interactive meaning of Islamic history documents which he has critisized. Then Wensick proposed a problem of historical-material: “Is all this history or legend?”. This is his challenge.
