Sufisme kota: studi tentang kecenderungan meningkatnya kehidupan religius-sufistik masyarakat muslim kota

This study tries to reveal the phenomena of increasing religious, sophistic practices of urban society, focusing on their forms, the underlying factors, and the benefits of participating in such religious practices. Surabaya, with all its charms, was taken as the research site. The method was grounded research. The data were collected using participant observation, in-depth interview, and library study. The researcher finally comes to the conclusion that there is an increasing intensity of religious, sophistic lives of the urban Moslem society as indicated by their increasing response to the existent religious activities. Participating in such activities, they feel to get some positive benefits, i.e. they can study religious science, create better social relationship, and get mental peaceful- ness, thus being able to live more meaningfully.
