Abstract
The introduction and spread of Islam all over Jawa is believed to be accomplished by the nine saints (Walisanga) around fifteenth to sixteenth centuries. Four of them settled in East Java: Sunan Ampel, Sunan Giri, Sunan Drajat, and Sunan Bonang. Three of them resided in Central Java: Sunan Kudus, Sunan Muria and Sunan Kalijaga. While two other Walis inhabited in West Java: Sunan Gunung Jati and Siti Jenar. One of the most famous written traditions explaining the history of the nine saints of Java is Babad Tanah Jawi. There are, except Babad Tanah Jawi, some other related written traditions concerning the same topics, but very little is known due to the fact that they are scattered among the society. It is because this reason that the research on texts Badu Wanar and Drajat was conducted. One of the most important issues raised in this research is that: were the nine saints involved in the invasion of Demak kingdom to Majapahit? The method used in exploring the data is historiographical analysis (philology) by comparing these two texts in terms of their content regarding the Walisanga involvement in the invasion of Demak kingdom to Majapahit.
