Metode neo-modernisme Islam: kajian singkat atas pemikiran pembaharuan Fazlur Rahman

The Islamic values in al-Qur'an and socialized by the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca and Medina 14 centuries ago, are addressed to all human beings on the earth throughout the times. Thus, Islamic teaching is always appropriate anywhere, anytime, and to any social dynamics. During 14 centuries, Islamic history mentioned several Moslem pioneers who reformulated Islamic values to be appropriate to their time and society. One of them is Fazlur Rahman, popular as the Father of Islamic Neo-Modernism. He recommended that a systematic method of interpreting al-Qur'an be reformulated. It consists of three steps: (1) formulation of the world views of al-Qur'an, (2) systematization of Qur'anic ethics, and (3) manifestation of Qur'anic ethics in contemporary contexts.
