Abstract

The issue of community empowerment is an important thing to research, especially if you care about gender. Gender disparities still occur, because many experiences misconceptions about gender. Misunderstanding is often caused by culture and ineffective communication. This means that gender communication is important, especially in social life. Gender communication can be used as a strategy for empowering women. Research on gender communication in the
community empowerment process has not been widely carried out. Thus, this research is important. This paper uses a qualitative descriptive research method with an ethnographic approach. Data was collected through interviews with 14
informants and 11 sources, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that there are four community empowerment programs as a means of gender communication, namely Community Self-Supporting Institutions (LKS, Community Self-Help Groups (KSM), Community-Based Environmental Arrangement Programs (PLPBK) and Family Welfare and Empowerment Programs (PKK). The four programs use the broadest space approach because it gives the community the opportunity to be as broad as possible. In addition, these four programs are included at the macro level in the community empowerment strategy. At the macro level, this includes implementing policies, as well as
activities that can organize the community. Through this activity, it can also be said as gender communication that can minimize conflict. It is hoped that there will be other studies that discuss other strategies for community empowerment, in order to complement other previous studies.
